How a global crisis can cause a recession in some markets and a boom in others.
2020 was a year people had a lot to say about, and still do, and understandably most of what’s said is pretty negative.
In terms of business though, there are some who might not see it that way.
Major retail chains were literally “stormed” by consumers panic buying like never before to hoard food like pasta, flour, cereals, yeast, rice… the list is endless. With the idea of shops closing and having to go into lockdown many people didn’t know what to do, and faced with uncertainty and fear for the future, rushed to do one of the few things they still could: shopping.
As a consequence, many companies had to increase their food production exponentially. Such high demand in such a short time and in a totally unexpectedly way put a strain on supply and distribution channels.
Despite the various problems though, food producers and major retail chains ended the year with a net increase on their turnover of the previous year.
It was relatively easy for major food brands and household cleaning product companies to increase their market share. Now, one might think, it’s time to acknowledge the vital importance of a flexible production chain, product packaging and distribution.
Making this chain more flexible and streamlined is one of the things we do, as many customers ask us to optimise their packaging lines.
In fact, for Tacom 2020 was a year of growth: results for all sectors were above average.
The trustworthiness of major brands gave consumers a sense of security in a time of uncertainty.
If this economic outlook continues, figures may confirm the positive trend for 2020. This could be a source of inspiration for companies operating in the food sector and others, brands sold by major retail chains, who haven’t invested in their products yet, and take the opportunity to make them more practical, safe and usable.
We are ready today, and will be ready in the future. We're always ready to help our customers stand out from the crowd and establish their niche on the market.
